Grow Native?

G'day All
Here in Melbourne recently there has been a debate in the paper about growing more native plants and less exotics. Evidently only about 20% of nursery sales are natives. Well we have just endured 3 days of 40+ degree temperatures here in Melbourne. It looks like my two Native Peppers (Tasmannia lancelata have turned up their roots Also a Lillypilly seems to have been knocked for six. Yet these 'persian weeds'(roses) while suffering are still alive and my Leighton Green and Castlewellan Gold have only dropped a few leaves.
I just wonder who is suffering the cultural cringe?
Cheers
