I was thinking as i read this article this morning, how long the river will flow for, as a result of the recent rainfall in its catchment.

How do we get the message out to the people of the Wimmera river, that it will only work as a drain in its current state? A short period of flow, followed by a long period of dry bed. Most people reading this know the basic principles of leaky weirs that will keep a river healthy. Is there anyone from the catchment on this forum. Perhaps they coud spread the word, that there is (and was prior to current practices) a way to sustain the flow.
In my mind, it will take the restoration of a complete river from start to where it becomes part of a major one. To get the attention and support of the greater population.
I'm not talking the murray river. There are plenty of other creek/river systems that would have less hype surrounding them.
Get in, do it from top to bottom. Here's the proof on a major scale.
Is this possible?
Thoughts? Suggestions? Criticisms?
