BIODIVERSITY: The key to a healthy ecosystem

Post by duane » Wed Feb 04, 2009 2:09 pm

There is a common Natural law that exists in the landscape.

The harsher the landscape the more biodiversity.

Antartica is reputed to have the the greatest biodiversity on the planet.

Australia too has had this honor...it did after all sporn the megafauna.

Which brings me to the topic of this post and this forum in particular.

It has been tremendous to see the growing interest and participation of people in this nsf forum.

Today, we are faced with harsh and difficult times.

The greater the participation and diversity of views and experiences we can have on this forum, the better off , I believe, we will all be.

I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE AND AT THE RISK OF REPEATING MYSELF I WILL SAY IT AGAIN "BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSION, LETS ALL LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER. THE INTERNET IS A FANTASTIC WAY TO DO THIS."

I put this previous post up in the hope that many others would contribute.

My contribution to these posts brings my own bias and experiences and presently I am bringing a very biased view of the world.

This forum desparately needs many other diverse contributions if it is to have meritocracy.

In this ecosystem I am performing the role of an invasive plant, some would say weed. I have a role, but in nature that will be short lived as eventually others will take their place and build a better climax system, one, where we can all share.

Peter and I are away in SA for a week from Thursday looking at the damage deep drainage channels are having on the landscape for the control of salinity.

We will be in Keith for 4-5 days....this will be a good chance for the ecosystem to take on a few more pioneering species....read code for more nsf forum bloggers!!

Big agribusiness and water - crucial enquiry April 14 - batt

Post by sheilan » Fri Apr 10, 2009 8:18 am

Please pass on. Our current farmers, especially irrigators, may have bad practices, but big agribusiness gives me the chills and the government/corporate support for the new pipeline is particularly scary.

The Victorian government has been aggressively pushing, on behalf of big-agribusiness and corporate retail, bad and unfair water allocation policies with expensive and unnecessary infrastructure. Please consider going to Shepparton on the 14th to see how this enquiry is conducted and support long-term Australian farmers and local Australian control of water catchments. If you cannot be there, please keep an eye on these trends which are beginning to affect all of us and will cause price increases everywhere but worse conditions for animals and people, with diminishing democracy and choice.
