Update from Canberra

Last friday Peter and a group of his supporters meet with senior level bureaucrats and top scientists in Canberra for a round table discussion on NSF.
Those attending were:
David Borthwick – Secreatry,Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) - Chair
Mark Lonsdale – Commonwealth Scientific, Industrial and Research Organisation (CSIRO) - Entomology
Richard Bush – Southern Cross University
John Williams – Natural Resources Commission, New South Wales
Pam Green – Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority
David Freudenberger – Greening Australia
Andrew Brooks – Griffith University
David Lindenmayer – Australian National University
Ted Lefroy – University of Tasmania
Peter Andrews – Natural Sequence Farming Association (NSFA)
Duane Norris - NSFA
Bill Saunders - NSFA
David Mitchell – Charles Sturt University
Ian Thompson – Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF)
Rod Shaw – DAFF
Kimberly Green – DAFF
Peter Baker – Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS)

Here is my take from fridays meeting in Canberra with the scientists and bureaucrats:
I think they now see Peter and his ideas as credible....
No one seriously challenged Peter ideas although there where questions about weeds and water but all were answered by Peter and the team.
I think they saw Peter and his team as also being positive.
The consensus was we should give nsf a serious go.
The nsf genie is clearly out of the bottle and we should work in partnership with it to see its done properly and in accord with Peter's ideas.
E & T were central as were demo sites across arange of regions .
Ian Thompson was delegated the role as contact and go-between within DEWHA and DAFF.
All in all a very positive step, bought about by the previous GG and Head of the Dept of PMC, Terry Moran.
It remains we have much hard work to do to build our team further and establish partnerships but we will make it happen.
