Hello,
Read both books, found them common sense and thought provoking.
In 'beyond', Peter referred to "we all know about Victoria" when discussing the woes of individual states.
I was curious as to what the woes actually are.
Any answers appreciated.

Re: Victoria
Hi Ross
Not sure where that text about Victoria was in the BTB book...I had a quick look but was unable to locate it.
Anyway. here's a considered guess:
Some of Victoria's woes include:
* 50,000km of incised, degraded streams and rivers
* loss of 95% of the states original biodiversity since settlement
* loss of 94% of it's original wetlands
* erosion on a massive scale inc tunnel erosion and gully erosion
* mass overplanting of monocultures of eucalyptus spp making the state more prone to burning and poisoning of waterways
* soil carbons levels and hence fertility levels <1%
* landscapes being drained by poor land management practices
Just to name a few !!!
