new discovery

Gidday all
I have just had my Grandson staying for 2 weeks and he enjoys Yabbying. What i found out was that my dam holds yabbies, fish and fresh water prawns, i was pretty surprised.
I didn't know about the prawns and was wondering if anyone might know where they come from, you see my run off creek that feeds my dam is only about 1km long before it enters my dam so didn't think they could wash in as there doesn't seem to be enough space for that to happen.
Anyway does anyone have any thoughts.
