We are about to start harvest.
The whole surrounding area has been hit by devastating late frosts.

The season has finished very very dry and due to the cold dry winter all oat crops in the area apear to have failed miserably.

My crops are no exception although the wheat being a tougher plant seems to have coped much better although extensively damaged by stem and flower frost resulting in the heads holding little grain.

A well below average result which means another year of struggle street.

We are used to it now and we are confident we will survive and plant another crop.

Once again I have to say I'm just so glad I didn't waste any money on expensive fertilisers.

If I had there is little doubt we would not have sustained a critical loss.

Next time I post here will likely be after harvest.

Lets hope things are better than they look.

Hi Duane and all.
I want to let you all know I am still here farming and learning.
We have made the decision to transition to organic this year and will be planting our first organic crops in a few weeks.
I'd love to hear from any organic farmers who can share their experiences.
We are looking forwards to a more healthy future producing a higher quality product for our consumers.

Hello Ian,

As a newby to NSF I have read your posts from 2007 and am inquisitive as to whether you are still work in progress or have you struck hurdles to your desired landscape.
I live in the Western Riverina area of NSW near a town called Hay.

Would love to hear an update on your projects.

regards
