Ruth,

It's very difficult to answer you accurately, sight unseen.
Where are you located?
Would you be able to get to a NSF field day?
My advice is to do nothing yet until Peter or someone experienced could come on site.

Hi Angela,

Now is the time for action. It's the females in life who are the real achievers and get things done.

I would really love to see them become a real force as change agents in our society.

The time for talking is over....we ALL need to act NOW.

Peter's basically follows the no till philosphy.

If you had a hard pan or wanted to plough Peter suggested you use a single tyne rather than a wider 8,10 or bigger tynes and simply limit the extent to which you rip in case of unseasonally high rainfall event.

Plan to Action- Mobilise the Women of Australia

The situation in our landscape is verging on 'catastrophic' says new NSW Minister Phil Koperberg. Every four days a farmer is committing suicide. Every day the prolonged drought is sending some farmers to the wall. And yet do we all fiddle while the country burns. Yes, it seems so. But there is a so...

Farming is about producing a product from the sun and air that a farmer can sell. The thistles have the capacity to double their weight every 10 days ie they can increase their weight from 1kg to 2kg to 4kg to 8kg to 16kg in 40 days. This means they are sequesting carbon and pulling up minerals from...

Hi Victoria, I spoke later with Peter Andrews and he said that the fireweed is more likely to be indicative of the end of a prolonged period of degradation and the fireweed plant is trying to rebuild an exhausted soil. The solution that I gave earlier was too simplistic. Peter suggested that you nee...

Peter believes that if you are able to slash the fireweed and put it at the top of the hydrology, above the infestation, then allow water/rain to pulse thru the fireweed mulch,it will rot down and the resultant waste will travel down tothe remaining inground fireweed, killing it, because it will not ...

How do we lessen the risk of bush fires without burning?

Before the arrival of our indigenous people some 40-60,000 years ago the natural fire regime in the Australian landscape was 1 in every 300 years. From around 40000 years ago the fire cycles became more evident and frequent, occuring every 3-4 years. This is evidenced from core drilling of the Great...

Should NSF become a part of the next election debate?

Everyone is now aware of the scientific and anecdotal evidence for climate change and global warning. Here in Australia, we are witnessing the drying up of the great Murray Darling Basin system, which up to this time has supplied nearly 70% of our food and fibre. The Prime Minister's announcement th...
