Re: The War on Willows
The term "plant succession" says it all for me. You've got to have something growing in the ground. Or the ground heads for the coast. If you don't like Willows, plant something (suitable to your ideas/needs) to outcompete them. Every plant does a job of some description. As stated many times befor...

Re: The War on Willows
Ghosta, you have to remember that David, and Peter I beleive, are working towards sustainable, or even more bravely towards regenerative, agriculture. To make the balance, sometimes the plants will be seen as invasive and may need to be controlled, but when the situation favours the naturalised pla...

Re: The War on Willows
Ghosta, So pleased to see that you're off the barbed wire fence. Ouch, it must have hurt....you were quick to declare your real interest. You have now officially declared your position.....a 'Willows Warrior'. I told you it's war!!!! Prepare yourself for the slaughter. You're in our sights..... Or ...

Re: The War on Willows
For those interested in this subject I have found an article which explains why willows were removed. http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CCwQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hoadley.net%2Fcremer%2Fwillows%2Fdocs%2FWildPW.doc&rct=j&q=Mannus%20Creek%20willows&ei=kJUBTcv2EMbsrQfLxYWRDw&usg...

Instead of attempting to post insults, why dont you simply answer my question?duane wrote:
Sorry Ghosta, you must have found a fence. Sounds like it's barbed wire one.

Re: The War on Willows
Duanne your attempt at ridiculing other posters who demonstrate flaws in your posts doesnt seem to be working. Im still here. Can you explain why the incident you related is in any way connected to the research done by Ms Doddy? They both involve willows...is that fact REALLY enough to subject her r...

Re: The War on Willows
Angela I followed your link and found they wanted money for a copy of the original paper. Did you access it? Was the aim of the paper to study the "nett benefit of willow removal from creeks and streams."? If so, then your suggestion that its not a propper evaluation would certainly be true. But fro...

Re: The War on Willows
Peter may have a point to make, but my guess is it will be lost in his diatribe attacking the CSIRO and its motives. A carefully crafted, concise and logical response woud serve his purpose better in my opinion.

Re: UPDATE from Victoria
As long as they go north and not south here to Tassy. Climate change is predicted to be beneficial to Tasmania with increased rainfall and a bright outlook for agriculture. How can we keep this a secret? We dont want to be overrun with tourists gawking at the last remaining eucalytus "weeds" with th...

Re: UPDATE from Victoria
. I heard there was a lot of weed control going on but do not agree that is a solution. At least they hold water, assist the small water cycle, provide habit, shelter, food sources, moderate temperature and provide groundcover etc etc etc........ Anyone know? Shirley If you follow this link you wil...

Re: Best Resources for NSF
I presume you have already read Peter Andrews "Back from the Brink" and his second book "Beyond the Brink" . Available everywhere, but at ABC shops http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/product.asp?productid=163189 The CSIRO sent an Expert Panel to study his work at the request of the government following h...

Re: UPDATE from Victoria
Thanks for your posting sceptic. I think Ill leave your "human" post alone. The study you posted an extract from raises more questions for me than it answers. Thats the nature of research, it allows others to build on the findings. some things that come to mind are- 1) Is the fertility around trees ...

Re: Carbon Dioxide: Put Simply: It's all B.S.!!!
Why bother trying to deal with climate change its simply a myth that we can realistically do anything about it. There are too many vested interests on both sides to see any worthwhile worldwide action. On one hand we have the dirty polluters who want to keep making money. On the other side we have t...

Re: Iconic ‘Tarwyn Park’ under threat from mining ‘lunacy’
It's time these foreign and Aussie coal mining companies look to cleaner , safer ways of making their living! I agree with your sentiments and wish it were possible. But if Australia restricted or eliminated coal mining then the Asian market would look elsewhere for a source of steel making coal. T...
