Re: WHAT TO MAKE OF THIS DAM LOCATION
I have a Dam at the bottom of the property, like almost everybody else. I am attempting to practice NSF, but I am not in a position to move my dam up the hill of course. I can see that all the fertility will eventually end up in the dam, but will deal with that later. My immediate question is wateri...

Re: The War on Willows
Hi Ghosta, When I first came to this site I was skeptical about certain Weeds (Gorse) in my case, I couldn't see how it could have a positive affect. But this site has helped me understand that all plants are Wonderful and are all doing good work. It will come to you too eventually. Just keep an ope...

Re: The War on Willows
I found this: "Weeping willows are one of two species not listed as Weeds of National Significance Weeping Willows and two hybrid species of Pussy Willow (S. x calodendron and S. reichardtii) are not listed as Weeds of National Significance as they don’t readily reproduce (CRC Weed Management 2003)....

Re: Holstic Management;Cell Grazing;Rotational Grazing
Just wanted to go back to this Post. I have been doing research into this Joel Salatin, and he is a Living Legend! This bloke, like Peter has spent his entire life looking at the way we farm, (manage the landscape), and both are talking the same language. Joel is probably taking the farming side to ...

Re: UPDATE from Victoria
Covered in rainforest and ferns 300 million years ago, Gondwana included South America, Africa, India and Antarctica. Most of Australia’s flora and fauna have their origins in Gondwana, which broke up about 140 million years ago. Australia separated from Antarctica 50 million years ago. As it drifte...

Re: Exhaust emissions fertiliser
Not bad for "Just a Farmer"..... Yes I am now sorry I asked the question, I am sorry to put you to so much work. I was expecting a simple answer like Miles per Gallon sort of thing. I am not able to comprehend that say 1 litre of Diesel (that weighs just under 1 kg) can produce more that 2kg Carbon....

Re: Exhaust emissions fertiliser
Wondering how you came to: "this emissions machine is pumping 1100kgs of carbon into the soil per Ha".How much fuel would you use per Ha?

Re: Bent Grass
Is Bent grass really that bad? I guess if it was all bent grass it might be. Thats when you would have to implement option 4.
And when you sober up, there will be a new species there. All part of the cycle.

Re: Exhaust emissions fertiliser
Fantastic Stuff Ian and James. A couple of questions for you. How do you measure the carbon coming out of the Machine? Do you think it can be sprayed on the surface, for existing pasture?

Thanks Duane, Since asking those questions back in 2008 I have done all that you and Peter have advised. I have been adding as much mulch as I can get my hands on. It is like magic. Wherever I add Mulch up comes the grass a week later. And where it has been for more than a year I can hardly get the ...

I too am wondering what would be best, and have decided that your disc mower would be best for the following reasons: 1. Speed. 2. Cuts thru thicker stuff OK. 3. Leaves the plant in a bulkier state, hence more surface area to cover ground and hold in moisture. 4. Could be raked into /along contour l...
