Re: NSF is working in WA

Hi Duane and all. I want to let you all know I am still here farming and learning. We have made the decision to transition to organic this year and will be planting our first organic crops in a few weeks. I'd love to hear from any organic farmers who can share their experiences. We are looking forwa...

Re: NSF is working in WA

We are about to start harvest. The whole surrounding area has been hit by devastating late frosts. The season has finished very very dry and due to the cold dry winter all oat crops in the area apear to have failed miserably. My crops are no exception although the wheat being a tougher plant seems t...

Re: NSF is working in WA

Hi Thanks for your interest. Last year we farmed with zero fertilizer over the whole farm apart from a few paddocks where I spread some sulphate of ammonium as a trial to see if I could see any benefit from the application. The year was not perfect but at the end of the season the crops performed ve...

Re: Leaky Weirs

Duane, I am sure you must have misinterpreted Colin's question.

Colin can speak for himself but I read that he was commenting on the general ignorance among the population about water management. Not suggesting that water courses should be cleaned up.

Can you clear this up Colin

Re: The War on Willows

So Ghosta you are abondoning ship? Maybe it is just as well. I understand what you are saying but the whole point of NSF is to utilise the natural sequence, Utilise what grows naturaly, not find better plants to do the job of weeds. The weeds will always be there..... so they will still have to be d...

Re: The War on Willows

Ghosta and others. Look at this scenario. Low rainfall. Broad acre conventional/No till cropping system. Post harvest, crop stubble providing minimal soil cover. Summer rainfall event. A mass of Melons and Caltrop germinate and grow strongly over the following few days and weeks while moisture remai...

Re: The War on Willows

HEAR HEAR

Ghosta has made it clear that he has no problem with the fact that the willow is not a native.

His issue seems to be primarily with it's invasive nature. He even said he would happily remove natives if they exibited the same traits as the willow.

Am I correct Ghosta?

Re: The War on Willows

I like what you are saying Ghosta, I would wholeheartedly support a program such as that which you are hinting at. There is a good chance of forming a united front..... Minus the removal of willows. Plant all you like. Add, aid and introduce, all fine with me. Sure we can find ways of assisting plan...

Re: The War on Willows

Ghosta, the point I am making seems to have been lost on you. The situation with the willows is mistakenly referred to as a war, it is not; it is only a theatre in a greater struggle, merely a battle so to speak. The attitude and actions directed towards the willow program are perfect examples of in...

Re: The War on Willows

I don’t care what anyone says, clearing a waterway of vegetation without first establishing a replacement stand whatever the reason or justification is an act of gross environmental vandalism and dare I say it, foolishness. Allowing a waterway to become eroded and damaged because of a preference for...
