Re: Understanding: Landscape Hydrology

HI Duane, I will be passing this info around. More and more people that I speak with have heard of Peter and are very interested in his work. Where I work in Campbelltown NSW they have started using rocks and plants in waterways and drains to attempt to restore natural functioning systems. I am very...

Re: Understanding: Landscape Hydrology

That is fantasic! Its been a along time since I have visited the NSF site but I am also working with communities and projects now (with funding) and this is a real inspiration. Who is Ian Sutton? Re: African Love Grass -any sollutions?

A link to some trials on sugar. http://www.csu.edu.au/herbarium/woodlandweb/restoration/sweet_end_to_weeds.htm Some interesting trials with sugar. Doses are not refined and mollasses is a cheaper alternative. I have seen the results of these trails and although it did not increase native grasses, it...

Re: Burning vegetation to lessen fire risk

Hard work! Im going to be trialing sugar or mollasses as done by a few others. I will let you know how it goes. Apparently the tussock grows due to low calcium in the soil and the weeds grow to correct imbalances. The weeds create sugar (especially the thistles as stated by PA) and the sugar improve...

How about some goats or other animals to assist with controlling the vegetation you dont want while they also contribute some fertility?

Re: oak trees

HI Rose,
There are many poisonous plants and the animals seem to only eat them when there is no alternative. As Peter describes in his books
“PA. The essential role of inedible plants in the environment is to create fertility for edible plants.
And more…page 90 ‘Back from the Brink.’ “

Re: The War on Willows

Duane, I am very annoyed at the money being wasted on weed removal. I have found that money is allocated and must be spent on it. I have put forward ideas for landcare using the money allocated and am told NO it has to be spent on weed removal . Worst of all it is NOT neccessary and time frames for ...

Re: Transforming rural land use by Ross Garnaut

The thing to watch for here is conditions. They may be imposed and NOT suit NSF. I would like for this to be a positive but it may need some guidance in regards to management. A great direction but be wary of WHO has control! :|

Re: Allelopathy

There are many alleopathic plants, Eucs, Casuarinas, Callistemon to name a few. If you are attempting the no dig garden you can include newspaper, straw, scraps any organic matter. Green is nitrogen, wood is carbon. Wood in soil draws nitrogen from the soil. So add nitrogen. Loose open piles of orga...

That was an amazing eye opener. I had no idea what was happening and now I DO! This is not just an issue for those farmers this is an issue for ALL of Australia. We should all do what we can to stop this blatent disregard for the environment. I have grave fears for the damage being done to the Arter...

Why not have both? Start your NSF contours or storage up high and keep your lower dam for your immediate needs.

Re: Eminent Scientist seeks possible Flood Mitigation soluti

For those of us in Australia that live in the greener areas, have a thought for those that do not. Below is a photo from 1989 WA "A bush corridor". ??? I think we can do better than that! http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj114/shirleyhenderson/Macarthur%20Australian%20Native%20Plant%20Society/CCF0...
