Lets face it, GM is just another ploy by the multinationals to keep farmers and everyone else under their controlled regime.(first hybrid now GM) NSF principles dispell so many of the myths their propoganda machine generates no wonder peter hasn't had a politican back on his place for years

Of course it all depends on the value of the end product and the inputs, not just the chemistry So very true Ian, biology, structure, and yes finding an optimum point of production rather than maximum. As for the pat curse i was't having a go but rather pointing out the fickle nature of your sector....

Hate to be once again cynical,(yes i will be sounding out our labour member asap)but why doesn't peter mac have the conviction to stand up in his electorate of gippsland and say this may be a better way forward than pork barrelling a new massive catchment dam that, to me, is antiquated in it's think...

So very right, nutrient density has to be a huge prority in our move forward. If we could stop looking at quantity above all else and be rewarded for a better product hopefully the uptake of NSF would be two fold and beyond

Ian, you said earlier that your oats grew really well in acidic soil yet your yields are better now after raising ph with lime, what is the eventual target of ph and yield and do you think you will be able to achieve it with minimal inputs here on in? You also call patto a weed pest, we are all goin...

I know what you mean Duane, it could be a case of too little too late, and major parties seem to have a habit of promising a lot more when they are on the ropes.. Wonder how the whole NSF ethos will fit with the parties when they realize they may be doing, big, election campaign coffer filling compa...

Yes Maarten is well worthwhile listening to, went to one of his lectures in Gippsland a couple of months ago and found it very thought provoking as with many of the new wave sweeping the conventional farming shoreline

Good luck Ian not an easy task to tackle i'm sure. Not sure what native grasses are around your area but you could do worse than also look into "pasture cropping" I dont have a link but "farming without farming" may help

various topography

Hello all, Hopefully i haven't doubled up from another thread elsewhere. Just wondering if there are amendments to the basic NSF principles for steeper country. This district has a massive tunnel erosion problem and it seems landcare projects ( planting of native trees not grasses) are in some cases...

Great to see we are up and running again. It's great to read such a different approach and to now look arond the landscape with another set of eyes. Have always been frustrated methods employed by so called progressive farmers, this came to a head when our neighbour recently waited till his thistles...
